Nominations for the award will be made by the Campus Awards Committee at Mona, Cave Hill and St Augustine campuses, with the final selection being made centrally. Any student who is a citizen or registered certificate holder of Antigua and Barbuda and who is entering into or completing an undergraduate programme is eligible.

The selection of the awardee will be made irrespective of financial need. All applications must be sent to UWI campuses by May 30, 2014.

To maintain the grant, the student awardee must sustain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, full time and continuous attendance at classes, a regular course load and good citizenship. The student is also expected to express his/her intention to return to Antigua & Barbuda following graduation.

The grant awardee must write a letter to MRF annually on his/her university experience. The grant will be awarded for a maximum tenure of three or five years dependent on the faculty regulations of the programme the successful student is pursuing.

Musette Morgan, Mill Reef Fund Chair commented ”We are delighted to form this partnership with UWI and to receive the support of the Ministry of Education so that outstanding students from Antigua and Barbuda may attend the University of the West Indies. In years past, the Mill Reef Fund paid for many Antiguan students to attend universities.

Today, several of those same students are involved in the highest levels of medicine, education, and government in Antigua. It is an honor to continue that legacy once again in Antigua and Barbuda through this education grant.”

Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro, Minister of Education, Sports, Youth & Gender stated, “The Mill Reef Fund has been instrumental in partnering with the government in various areas of education, more recently at the Early Childhood level. The reinstatement of the scholarship programme is testimony to their commitment at the tertiary level; and I offer deepest appreciation and gratitude to Mill Reef Fund for their philanthropy on behalf of the prospective awardees.”

Professor Alan Cobley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies at the University of the West Indies, noted that the University had received many excellent students from Antigua and Barbuda over the years and welcomed the new scholarship, which he said would help ensure that this proud tradition continued: ‘I wish to offer my profound gratitude to The Mill Reef Fund for its generosity and foresight in sponsoring this award. We are natural partners: the University and the Fund were established in the same year, and share a similar goal – that of improving the lives of our people. I am delighted that we are working together through this agreement to increase the opportunities for university education available to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.’

Hopefully, it won't be an issue, but 3.0 GPA is too low of a minimum standard.
