ABIA, Scotiabank to Refurbish NTTC Classroom

HTTC students in newly refurbished classroomAntigua St. John's - The Antigua & Barbuda Investment Authority (ABIA) has partnered with Scotiabank to renovate a National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) classroom that would serve as a hub for the Authority’s Mind Your Business (MYB) programme and schoolroom for NTTC students.

This week, ABIA and Scotiabank representatives, including ABIA Director of Enterprise Development Jacqueline Yearwood, and Scotiabank Country Manager Gordon Julien, officially handed over the newly refurbished classroom to the faculty and students of the NTTC.

“This is just the next step in the continued partnership between ABIA and Scotiabank," Yearwood said. "In 2010, the organisations jointly introduced the MYB programme to the nation’s residents with four courses. Four years later, the programme has expanded to include 19 courses. We are proud of this initiative."

In his address, Julien Gordon stressed the importance of training the nation’s future entrepreneurs.

“We need to develop more entrepreneurs in Antigua & Barbuda and we would like to see students moving from the NTTC programmes to eventually becoming entrepreneurs and utilizing the MYB programme to further sharpen their entrepreneurial skills,” Julien said.

In an effort to foster youth entrepreneurship, ABIA has partnered with Scotiabank and the Ministry of Education to once again offer the MYB “The Real Hustle” summer youth programme.

The "Hustle” encourages and trains burgeoning entrepreneurs in third through fifth forms and augments their current CXC business studies. The programme will be held at NTTC from July 7-18.
