New CDC Yet to be Appointed

Minister Eleston Antigua St. John's - Minister with responsibility for Carnival Eleston "Namba" Adams has said plans for the 2014 summer festival are underway, although a Carnival Development Committee (CDC) has yet to be appointed.

Adams said the committee that has been in charge of the festival for the past two years is still in place.

"The present committee, I believe, would still be in place, although I haven't had discussions with the prime minister on whether we could go ahead or if there are any changes that we would like to make," Adams said.

He said, however, that not having a committee appointed does not keep individuals or groups (mas' groups, steel band players etc) from getting prepared.

"I know that from the time Carnival was over, or even before the conclusion of Carnival, individuals have been planning," the minister said. "So plans have been going on already, even with or without the reappointment of a CDC that has been happening."

Adams noted that the appointments would need to be made official.

"But things are happening, and we are going to have a great Carnival 2014," he said. "I have no doubt about that. I know the writers are busy. The musicians are already busy in the studios; already doing what they have to do. I have to give them credit for what they have been doing."

Meanwhile, Adams said that from all indications, most of the participants from last year's celebrations have been paid.

it would sure make sense, if the powers that be put in place a committee that serves for two or three years with a rotating membership. This would ensure continuity of ideas and stop a lot of this ad havoc planning. Also it would bring more of a professional image and money generating stream system since goals could be long range. Then we would not be running helter shelter year after year to put this thing together. Time for some forward thinking people and put some professionalism into your national festival

This Festival/Celebration is a huge revenue earner for the Nation. Not only should a Committee be in place to manage the 365 days plus 1 at times, but a structured system have to be in place as well. Like any properly operating system, parts/employees will wear out from time to time and, once replaced, the system will be up and running efficiently and effectively. The biggest problem would be maintenance. It seems like each and every Committee try to invent a new system and this is a negative, it stagnates. The three month period when this Celebration is in swing could and should be at least 15 to 20 percent of the Nation GDP. Taking into consideration the residuals which various artist will benefit from.
Use Our resources wisely and stop the foolishness. This time of year is when many families take their Summer vacation. Our Nation should be in final five destinations when these family's book their reservations; from cruise to air & land.
This Committee should also be working in tandem with the Ministry of Education, Tourism, Agriculture and of course Finance.

Government Worker

#9 What a Thing » 2014-04-03 13:25

Hmm, it is most baffling to other government employees that cabinet made a commendable decision to create a National Festivals Office and the appointed technical staff are not given the opportunity to perform their duties up to this day. The Prime Minister, as the chairman of cabinet, should be called upon to give an explanation on this matter. Probably, there is a plausible reason for the cabinet to review its decision instead of leaving the workers skills hanging in limbo. It is not fair at all!!

Informed, the staffing of political flunkies at the Festivals Office is just like most government departments. So, your comments bear no relevance to the statements being made by Minister Adams. Stick to the point and analyse the article properly. You are off track!!

Wait! Hold up! Let me get this straight. There is no Committe in place, but plans are underway? Well if that ain't a contradiction, I don't know what else is. There must be some INVISIBLE people getting the work done. Is it still the case that the CDC Chairman is also the manager of a local artist who competes in the said Carnival? Objection! your Honour.

Which Festival Office

#3 Informed » 2014-04-01 10:07

The Festival office is staffed mainly with political flunkies - one blonde over 60 who is an ardent supporter of the Prime Minister. It is headed by a failed "accountant" who sleeps in his office when he is there. It is also the dumping ground for ABLP supporters who did not kow tow to John Maginley... it is the new Siberia. Don't even mention FESTIVAL'S OFFICE the how structure is flawed.
My final, all encompassing response to the Minister's remarks is CHUPTZ!

#2 Hmm » 2014-04-01 09:00

So why up to now the National Festivals Office isn't being allowed to play its rightful role so the planning for our festival could have already commenced? Namba you have to an idiot! Suppose Medial Benefit didn't have an administrative Arm and was run solely by a Board who we would to wait to be appointed? That means we wouldn't getting the assistance we needed... Take Carnival SERIOUSLY...Our Arts & Culture is dying under this clown!

Cant wait to see the back of Namba

The best things about this year's Carnival, is that after this pending election - we would have rid the likes of a dunce like Namba from not only Minister of Carnival, but hopefully all Carnival activities for good.
It was ABSOLUTE TORTURE the last five years for Carnival lovers to be subjected to all his backward and dunce statements as minister.
