Rum and Rhythms Success‬

Regatta party photo-kevin JohnsonAntigua St. John's - Scores of people partied well into the night on Saturday as music from some of Antigua’s top entertainers including one of the Caribbean’s leading soca artists, Tian Winter, filled the commercial centre of the Jolly Harbour Marina Village.

After yet another thrilling and exciting day of races in the 20th instalment of the Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta, the temperature was turned up several notches for the English Harbour Rum and Rhythms Party.

Popular Antiguan DJ, Nez, got the party started from early afternoon with a selection of well known hits that set the mood for the entertainment to come.

A delightful repertoire of international hits was put down by the increasingly popular 1761 band. Young and old swung to well known dance songs.

By the time the Antiguan soca monarch, along with his Iconic band were ready to take the stage, the large crowd was a lively buzz. As the crowds cheered for the Winter man himself, he responded with hit after hit from his growing list of hits that won him consecutive party monarch titles in Antigua.

Tourism Minister John Maginley was among some of the well known faces in the crowd. Also taking in the fun was Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Labour, Dr. Errol Cort.

Mr. Maginley expressed his delight at the turn out to the event, acknowledging that this was the first go at making the Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta into something even bigger, particularly with the addition of the Rum Festival.

As part of the varied mix of attractions for the event, the after race activities headed to the Castaways Beach Bar on Sunday for performances by the popular Chicki’s Hi Fi and the Spirited Band plus the prize giving ceremony along with beach cricket organized by Kenny Benjamin.
