Rachel Collis Launches Christmas Carol

Rachel CollisAntigua St. John's - ‘Christmas without you is just another day, Christmas without you is just another lonely day,’ are a few lines from a new Christmas Carol done by songbird Rachel Collis

Although recently released, the response has been overwhelming.

Rachel is a known sports personality in Trinidad & Tobago, having played netball and basketball on the national level, she is the familiar face seen on a Social Security commercial shared with Morris Norris Harris and is no stranger to the stage; being first introduced to it when she was 12 years old.

She is Trini by birth and has sung with several groups including the Gardenias before graduating to more senior and popular groups from which many of Trinidad’s leading artistes were discovered. She is also a member of the National Choir.

After completing her university education she took up residence in Montserrat and while living there she entered the calypso competition on many occasions; successfully making it to the finals each time.

‘Christmas without you’ is not her maiden recording; she has done two albums before. However those were never heavily marketed due to other commitments.

This particular song has been in the making for years, but was finally released owing to the push and encouragement she received from her friends.

Collis, who is a student of the arts and holds a first degree in modern languages, says she gets her inspiration for writing from things that happen around her, including her new song, which basically tells of various things that take place at Christmas: the decorations, the foods, fun shopping.

Those spending Christmas alone will be sure to remember the ‘catchy’ lyrics.

She has been on an aggressive promotional drive and her main goal is that the song will secure international marketing.

‘Christmas without you,’ was produced by master arranger Jagger Martin who also plays the bass. Keithley Meade plays the guitar and Eddie Nias the keyboards.

Dear Antigua, you have one of the region's most notable and talented women. I have known Rachel forever. She is very unassuming and tends to downplay her multitude of talents. I am not easily intimidated but she is an amazing woman. A little secret. I wanted to ask her to marry me but I did not think I measure up. I will add this song to my collection of her songs that I think she does not know I have them.

I have had the opportunity to hear Rachel sing. She has a unique voice and style. I don't think we Antiguans know enough about her apart from her professional duties. She is a very talented person and I hope we get to know more about her as an artist.
