No Money For Hard Knoxx

No Money For Hard KnoxxAntigua St John's - Culture Minister Eleston Adams has said no money was allocated to assist reigning Party Monarch Gerald "Hard Knoxx" Lewis, who will represent Antigua & Barbuda at the International Soca competition in Trinidad & Tobago next month.

Hard Knoxx and members of his group Juggle For Life are already in Port of Spain for the competition.

They reportedly left Antigua early to participate in several fetes leading up to Carnival there, and to seek exposure through media appearances.

On Wednesday, Hard Knoxx's manager, Shawn "Danski" Ryan, told Observer Radio the group had run out of money in Trinidad and needed assistance.

But Adams, who also heard the statements on radio, said no promises were made to Hard Knoxx to assist him with his expenses in Trinidad. “We have provided him with 10 tickets, valued at $12,000, for him and his crew to travel to Port of Spain," Adams said.

"The CDC did not tell him to go to Trinidad for two months. I advised him that when others went to participate in the show, example Tian Winter and Claudette Peters, they applied to the Cabinet for assistance and received between $20,000 and $30,000 to help with their participation."

According to the minister, Hard Knoxx did not apply for such assistance. He said when he met with the artist last week, he was informed that Hard Knoxx and his crew had $86,000(TT).

“If they left for Trinidad on Monday with that much money, how is it that they have run out of money this soon?” the minister queried. “I believe all this is in an effort to pressure the government and to seek sympathy from the public."

Adams said he also wanted the public to understand that by merely appearing in the competition, Hard Knoxx will receive an appearance fee of EC$50,000. The organisers will also assist him financially with his presentation, according to Adams.

As for whether it is too late for Hard Knoxx to receive money from the government, Adams raised strong doubts, citing the current state of the government’s finances.

Hard Knoxxx needs to go to Fort Knox pt2

Dear Hard Knoxxx ... get your management to do some work. You got a great and popular song & dance to sell to a multi billion dollar franchise. Ya'll should be in T&T since September meeting with all KFC owners finding sponsors for what will be an opportunity of a life time for them to have the whole of T&T singing & dancing to the Kentucky song during their Carnival. Just show them the video of how you mashed up the ARG to win the Soca Monarch and tell them you want to take it to a next level on a BIGGER stage with their help. If they say no just come back home and stop sing about Kentucky ... come with a remix about a beverage company next year who is willing to sponsor you upfront ... no free advertising this time!!!

Hard Knoxxx needs to go to Fort Knox

#13 The Wadadli Blogger » 2012-01-12 22:42

Did the government give Da Bear any money to go defend Antigua?

How much money did Young Destroyer get when he went and BANG them on the international stage?

This ain't even a case of defending Antigua. This is a T&T show full of T&T contestants and put on by a private company.

Having said all of that ... the CDC has to see the value of promoting our Soca artists abroad to HELP OUR CARNIVAL. And that is the BIGGEST stage for Soca. They should make sure our artists are well prepared to go down there and be a good CDC crowned Monarch. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they should put aside some of the $780,000 that they are to pay out to the same Soca artists this year to guarantee the winner has something to work with ... who don't like it don't enter you are keeping the CDC brand top notch.

the minister new the procedure and should have advised the young man to apply to the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda. What goes for one or two should go for the others. Come on Namba, try and do better.

Giving taxpayer $ to Hard Knaxx would be the biggest waste in the history of Antigua and Barbuda. Let Kentucky Fried Chicken sponsor him and his awful song.

Stop it

#5 Skyewill » 2012-01-12 09:14

You mean tax payers money pay entertainers to travel to perform? This and Political perks need to stop forthwith. The people should not be paying for this. Entertaining is tier chosen business. These entertainers are very good. With record sales and money from shows, Promotions and others do they pay the people (tax payers) back? Another Area to cut to bring the economy under control.

#2 DumNamba at it again » 2012-01-12 06:28

If Government assistance was granted to Claudette and Tian... shouldn't it be granted to Hard Knaxx also? ...And it's not like the Minister and the Government didn't know he was scheduled to go Trinidad to represent Antigua in the competition. There shouldn't be favoritism in the grant of such funds: Antigua representative is Antigua's representative.

Minimal Expectations..Minima l Results

#1 Team Namba » 2012-01-12 06:26

Seriously, did you really expect different from Namba? 86k TT dollars Namba? Sounds like a lot to your pea brain but do the conversion & tell me how much money does Hard Knacks have to work with ESP when he is competing with the big names in TnT.
This government is a joke. Take the money from the Tourism budget because this is exposure for Antigua on an international scale. You cannot pay for the type of advertising having our artist perform in these types of venues can provide.
Namba is a joke & so is the UPP..
