Antigua Independence Homecoming Launched

Independence Homecoming LaunchedAntigua St John's - Antigua & Barbuda’s Pearl Independence Homecoming celebration was officially launched on September 28 at the House of Culture.

Minister of Culture Eleston Adams has said talent and cultural expressions promote pride and confidence in the indigenous traditions of our nation.

He said, “In light of the global trend towards the principles of economic diversification, the culture industry becomes charged to engage, employ, and encourage the national creative energies and identify non-traditional income generating opportunities while fostering national pride."

Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, and Gender Affairs Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro urged citizens to remember the journey the country has taken since 1981.

She said, “Our country and our people have progressed and developed in areas of agriculture, education, healthcare, tourism and sports.

We have produced countless scholars, athletes, businessmen and women, artisans, and other professionals through scholarships and advanced training stemming from our independence status."

The rich array of local talent and culture that will be showcased during the 30th independence celebrations include a folk festival, a festival of choirs, literary arts competition, National Schools Panorama, calypso awards, Homecoming Queen Show, and Independence Food Fair.
