Consultant Outlines Remote Strategy

Dr Lowell LewisAntigua St. John's - Consultant Surgeon at Mount St John’s Medical Centre Dr Lowell Lewis presented a poster paper on “Emergency Surgery in the 21st Century for Developing Countries and Remote Communities” at the annual President's Meeting of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSE) of Edinburgh.

Other contributors to the paper were Dr Steve Richards and Dr Subbiah Radhakrishnan, both Consultant Surgeons.

“It was an honor to be selected to make a presentation at my first return visit to the College, since becoming a Fellow 32 years ago," Dr Lewis said. “It was also a privilege to demonstrate that not only is access to surgical services in Antigua & Barbuda, Montserrat and St Kitts & Nevis, comparable with that in the United Kingdom and North America as a result of air ambulance medical evacuation services, but also in some instances advanced care is provided in Antigua in a more affordable way, by combinations of old and new surgical techniques, as well as by collaborating with the local private health institutions.”
Stemming from this paper, MSJMC’s staff now has a template for easy continuous audit of their work.
