Helen CrawfordAntigua St. John's - An Antiguan woman about to turn 100 has been featured in the overseas press ahead of a pending celebration to mark the occasion.

Helen Crawford, known as "Miss Iris," moved to Brooklyn in 1967. She brought her Antiguan customs, her cooking, and her love for knowledge with her.

Family and friends are preparing to fete her longevity this month at Pompei Ristorante & Catering in Long Island.

Crawford, who worked at the Mill Reef Club and the US Army Base as a maid, joined her two daughters in the US at the age of 53. She started working in a shoe factory for $1.50 an hour.

Those who paid tribute to her lauded her kindness, and constant quest for information.

Her big birthday will be on March 21.
