New Recording – Asot Michael and Gaston Browne the Propagandists

The PropagandistsAntigua St. John's - Caribarena’s latest recording reveals a conversation between Gaston Browne, Asot Michael, and Lester Bird, in which they discuss elements of the ALP Propaganda machine.

The conversation focuses on the role of James “Tanny” Rose, and the difficulties he, along with Member of Parliament Molwyn Joseph, have been causing for ALP Benefactors.

These benefactors included William “Bill” Paul Scott, a man convicted of money laundering in the US in 2012, and Devcon, a former parent company of Antigua Masonary Products that would later be purchased by the Hadeed Family.

In the recording, Asot Michael can be heard detailing how Donald L. Smith Jr and Richard Hornsby, both executives at Devcon, as well as Scott, were enraged at comments made by Rose on ZDK.

Asot Michael also details that the ALP received over $350,000 for the upcoming elections at the time of the recording, as well as $500,000 for the previous election from these benefactors, and threatens to stop paying Rose a monthly payment of $1,000.

A particularly noteworthy statement is made by Gaston Browne in regard to Rose, in which he says, “…those who are carrying propaganda for the Labor Party, they must understand that they have a particular role to play”. This comment was made by Browne after he had been contacted directly by Scott, as revealed by Asot, and told off about Rose’s attacks against Scott on ZDK.

From this recording, it becomes clear how the ALP enabled business owners to control the flow of media in the country.

After paying the ALP, any of its benefactors, including the above mentioned money launderer, simply had to make a phone call and demand that ZDK refrain from mentioning them in order to avoid being discussed in the media.

This control over the flow of information is most clear when Lester Bird says, “I told Tanny after you all have to ease off of Bill Scott”.

Finally, it must be highlighted that Asot was directly responsible for paying Rose, a journalist, $1,000 a month to speak about topics favoring the ALP, and that Lester Bird even forced the Hadeed family to pay Rose an additional $5,000 a month.

The blogger Observer said, " Note that Brown was the only politician that ever declared his asset as mandated by law to the Integrity [commission]."

While this is a good thing and GB is following the law, it would be helpful if GB would make the declaration public. Since the Commission is secretive, this is of no value to the electorate.

"Let's fix the little things with RWE before we attempt to fix the big things."

Every generation has their own challences. We will fight ours. That is why I challenced Gaston in a post a couple of months ago that he takes politics to the next level. That he'll be bold enough to bring a change in the way politics is practiced in Antigua. Note that Brown was the only politician that ever declared his asset as mandated by law to the Integrity comission. Not one red or blue one has followed his example. So you cannot say he enriched himself from this or that. His earnings are public. You think Errol Cort would do that. You think Lovell will do that. You think the PM who desparately looking for the $1Mln dollar to pay the Treasury will do that. I charged brown to have Public hearings on all ALP and UPP wrong doings with the same reconciliation purpose as you mentioned. Perhaps more of us should make that call. And I charge him to put the commissions in place and give them power to fight corruption in the future. As we know the UPP past the laws but never gave them any teeth. We still do not have any transparancy in government dealings. We are finding out through the grapephine what is happening. Such as the latest deal witb Bau panel.

The problem in ANU and Barbuda is that everyone does what please them in their own sight. They do not follow the laws, condemn the wrongdoing of others, provide exceptional customer services, provide fair business practices in government and private, create and follow policies, or care about each other. This goes from the GG to the homeless. It has gotten worst during the past 10 years so it begs the question. Did the UPP administration continued the lawlessness and the lifestyles of the ALP? Answer: YES they did. They did not prosecute anyone for wrongdoings from the previous administration because they had plans to maintain the status quo of those wrongdoings and getaway from prosecution too. The counter to those ALP tapes is the manner in which the country borrowed money from China and other entities without seeking the approval from parliament or the people of Antigua and Barbuda. ALL doing the wrong things and that is why ANU burning. Nuff said.

If you've been reading my comments on this forum you'd see that I have held on to the same views regarding past and present corrupt practices by our politicians. If the statute of limitation has expired for some of the incidents that you've mentioned then perhaps pursuing court cases should be off the agenda. However, for those incidents where the statute of limitation is still in effect I do believe court cases should be pursued.
ANU has lots of of potential, but the country has way too many baggage preventing it from advancing up the ladder of success. Now, unlike many who have been commenting on this forum, I have been calling for ANU to have a "Truth and Reconciliation" hearing (similar to what was done in South Africa) to address past practices in order to bring about some form of closure and help our beloved country heal itself and move on. Will such a thing happen? Not while the people who are responsible for the mess the country is in is actively trying to seek or hold on to power to satisfy their own selfish desires.

@Observer, I would have liked for Caribarena to post my response to one of your comments, i.e. 'what is the big deal?'
Many of you, take this game of Politics for a joke in Our Nation. This is because the People live in fear of those whose salary they pay. Quite the contrary in the Nation which you cited. In America, the information which has been presented here in this forum from the WPP, to the Fencing Scandals, to these recordings of Our Governing Officials would have been used to indict many of these same Government Officials, and believe you me, many would have a felony conviction.
As, for Tanny Rose been a Lobbyist...I will donate the award which you think that I deserve to a Fund which would erect a stature of a pair of lips at Knuckle Block. I would trust you to be the Chairman/woman of said Committee. The inscription would read, " the words which came from these lips, tantamount to a gift of a dead Rose."

#68 Observer... » 2014-04-24 21:16

Today on the news I had a great laugh. Lovell finally seems to be getting it. He understands how an economy works. And he looked very happy to explain himself to the young lady that was interviewing him. And she also seems to have fun. Guess what he said. Construction is the best way to jumpstart the economy. When a construction worker has work and gets paid. He most likely has a family. He will then go to the supermarket and buy groceries and that brings money to the supermarket. Can you believe it. Our Finance Minister finally gets it. The basic economic principles that we have been trying to teach him all these years. Not to tax us out of existence and take the money out of our pockets. Just so he can spend it. Well well you can see it is election time. Well I guess it is too late. School is out for summer. Report card is already printed and signed. And yours Lovell is an F. Not just for Fail, but for being such a FOOL

SlythatGuy tenman I hear is banned from commenting on articles related to tapes. He may lead persons astray says the owner. SlythatGuy, there was no bidding, read what the minister said next (he worked with them). He also made this clear in parliament. His boss afteall reminded him that these people had donated much to the UPP's 2004 election campaign. How could there have been a bidding process when we ended up having two plants (WPP and the added ones from Hadeed) when we needed only 1? A bidding process (ie having the projects accessed via the tendors board) would have prevented the mess that followed (shoul on one mission, Daniel on another).

The fences and bathroom that has cost of over EC$43Mln. The roads at the stadium that has cost us $10Mln per mile. The Romantic Rhytm that to date cannot be accounted for. Tenman, what's the big deal using another moniker? There was really no need to go through all this trouble going undercover in order to say something in respond to what I said in my blog. So where is the dishonesty or misconduct in suggesting that Ramiz Hadeed be allowed a bidding chance to provide the extra electricity? Was there any bribery involved? Did he not meet the requisite qualification for bidding for the job? I don't see any evidence of fraud here.

Keep spinning like a top made of cedar and soaked in turpentine for months to keep it from rotting.
Speaking of rotting, remember, many of Us have dual citizenship, therefore we understand the semantics of politics, and there is no way, that any Public Official in the USA of any form of Government from School Board to the White House, Congress etc. and these conversations were revealed in the media and there would be no repercussions. Get Real for, We have gotten smart. There would be no public association with known and convicted criminals for such crimes as bribery, forgery, embezzlement etc; some can and will toe the line but they could not be exemplifying the kind of callous behavior which Our Politicians are emanating.
As far as Campaign Financing goes, the donor gives to the National Organizations, which can then distribute the funds to Various Candidates.
So, please this type of rhetoric at the recycling bin.

Bill Scott -former owner of WorldWide Telesports

#53 billscott » 2014-04-24 17:18

What was Scott convicted of?
Quote:
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia unsealed an indictment yesterday against William Scott, Jessica Davis, Soulbury Ltd. and WorldWide Telesports, Inc., (WWTS) for offenses related to the laundering of an estimated $250 million worth of Internet gambling wagers, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher announced today. This indictment underscores the Justice Department’s commitment to attacking illegal Internet gambling concerns by using federal anti-money laundering laws. The 12-count indictment, filed April 7, 2005, alleges that from April 1998 through the date of the indictment, Scott and Davis operated WWTS, one of several entities through which they illegally enticed gamblers to send funds from the United States to Antigua with the intent that these funds would be used for wagers on Internet casino games and sporting events
Quote:
Antigua and Barbuda has taken the next step in its World Trade Organization (WTO) fight against the United States of America by expressing their opposition to Senator Harry Reid’s federal online poker bill. The Hill reports that the bill, which could be reintroduced during the post-election Lame Duck session, “mischaracterizes” Antigua’s long-running dispute with the U.S. and specifically favors U.S.-based firms.bonusrepublic.com/tag/office-of-the-united-states-trade-representative/

What is the big deal #4

#52 Observer... » 2014-04-24 17:10

I guess people have now developed the art of begging. And it is rampant all over. Never I have seen so many people begging in Antigua before. But that is what we have come to. A country of beggars. And look what the UPP is bragging about. Their social programs. Giving school meal. (Not free by the way) and PDV Caribe, which we will have to pay back some day. So as I see it, it is inevitable. The hour has come. Baldwin better start writing his political obituary. You will not be remembered for anything good. Nothing worthwhile. It was all a BIG MISTAKE.

I said that if I had a dime in that bank I would pull it out. Because Mr. Bau Panel will not get my money. Let him bring his own money. That is FDI. Not use our money in our bank. But you see the UPP is so inept they do not understand this simple principle. But you will have people not understanding support this project and think it is good for the country. Sad thing, but true. So when you have such an inept set of guys, you just cannot give them another five year. Or else by the time they finish Antiguans will not even have a shirt on their back. We would all be pauperized. Look at the report of Food For The Poor. And poor me I was hustled again in Epicurean last weekend. I young girl approached me for money to buy baby milk for her child. And she really looked sad and almost in tears. Because of my compassion I went straight opened my wallet and gave her some money. Later I saw her ha**ing someone else and I thought hold on how much money she need so for this baby milk.

Tanny just uses his PR to make money. And that is because people listen to him when he speaks. Nothing at all wrong with that. The business that sees value in that will pay for his service. Just look at the money the UPP has spent so far in this election. Where do you think the money is coming from? Daily on the radio certain UPP attack dogs are ready to call on the radio and right here on CA we see them also. You think they do that for free. Come again. Never before has this site seen so many new bloggers. They have all sort of names. And every comment against UPP gets all the thumbs down and in favor of UPP gets all the thumbs up. Well let me tell them. That will not win the election. The reality is people are fed up with the pauperization of them. What is it you guys cannot understand. The government under the UPP has tried for ten years to revive the economy and they just cannot do it. Everything they try they fail. I commented on the Bau Panel article now some weeks ago that it was a rip off. And that the bank should be ashamed to be part of it.

I fail to see what the issue here is. In the US Tanny would be considered a lobbyist. While Hadeed, Devcon and others are considered campaign financiers. Perhaps you guys need to wake up. Running a political campaign is not cheap. You need many donors. See how the US Supreme court has ruled that person can give unlimited money to any political party. The Koch Brothers are just buying up politicians. And people that will speak well of you. I have given many examples in the past were Stanford would meet with Winston of the Observer Group at the famous hangar and ask that he call of Serpent and others, and as a reward the checks were past. That is just part of doing business. Who you think paid for the UPP campaign of 2004. No one bother to ask Baldwin when Stanford told them to ask him. Whether he received money from him. Because we all know the answer how the money went. Between Stanford, Hadeed and the ABIB Group plenty money was contributed to the UPP. The ALP that year lost a lot of donors due to no one else but Asot. But it seems that this year they getting back some of the businessmen/women to support them. And that because the fact is the UPP was and is bad for business.

SlythatGuy lets not forget this part:
Quote:
We shook hands and I proceeded to work out a joint venture arrangement of which you are well aware. This arrangement provided for the Hadeeds/APC to purchase and comission a 34 Mega Watt Power Plant with their own resources at no additional drain on the coffers of APUA, government and the people while earmarking 45% shares to APUA which was to be paid for from the profits at the end of each financial year. It was a tough sell but I prevailed in what I still believe was best for the country. My heart was torn when you reneged on that strategy that I had worked so hard to achieve. To this day I cannot believe my government caused Armed Forces to be set upon these people/friends as they tried to land those generators, which later were called upon in our hour of need.

Quote:
When we were out of options to meet our electricity demands approaching Cricket World Cup in 2007, it was you who invited me to your office to meet with Ambassador Ramiz Hadeed. My recollection of this is that you reminded me of the friendship and financial contribution to the UPP for elections of 2004 from that family. You opined that you would like to see the friendship rekindled between myself and the Hadeeds and that since we were looking for additional power generation you suggested that I give them the opportunity to be part of the proposed few to compete for APC to provide the additional power to APUA.

#43 Dig It » 2014-04-24 14:07

My friends, ending corruption in this country is like fixing a "suck-hole" in the sands down Dredge Bay. At the end of the day...we are all in the same boat because corruption will go on from generation to generation. If we "follow de money" we will know where it leads to and who is behind it. Take a look just before and/or after the elections and see where political parties are spending their money to advertise or spread their propaganda. Look at who are offer big positions in government.
What we need is people who are willing to come together and curb/end corrupt practices with stronger and fair laws in place to root it out of society in all places...not just with one but all parties. Let us demand that our politicians and caretakers put their money where there mouth is and signed a contract with the people. Otherwise, at the end of the day.."more will be said than done."

I require nothing...nada...zil tch

#35 Jumbee Picknee » 2014-04-24 12:05

Folks, the only thing that is required of an honest, sincere, trustworthy, humble body to bring those words of, "Each Endeavoring, All Achieving..." are Individuals who are willing to forego their Salary for the entire time that they sit in Parliament, representing the People's Best interest. After, they complete their tenure, then and only then can they be rewarded and this is done in the form of a pension. This pension will be paid out, either when you reach retirement age or death or serious illness etc...details can be worked out. We MUST now become very creative, not only to combat this type of clandestine behavior but to curtail and eventually if not eradicate, control it.
The People MUST now demand that money is not the main objective for entering the game called Politricks.
Gaston come clean with the People or your days are numbered and the glory will be short lived. Stand up on two feet with your nature hanging where the Great Universal Gad, God, Jah, Jehoviah, Allah put your testicles; not in your head. We want Leaders who will admonish their own children when they have done wrong and stand by their admonishment even if it hurts them, The same can be done for any and every employee who the People' s taxes pays their Salaries.

I MUST SAY " TOO MUCH SAINTS ARE ON Caribarena TODAY'. LIKE THEIR LITTLE LIVES ARE ALL SO PERFECT, AND HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING IN THE PAST. MANY OF US HAS STOLEN IN THE PAST TOO, RAPE ,CHEAT/COMMITTING ADULTERY, AND OTHER MEANS OF CORRUPTION. UP TO THIS DAY WE HAVE NEVER PAID AND GOT CAUGHT FOR WHAT WE HAVE DONE. I AM NOT DEFENDING ASSOT, LETSER, AND ROBIN IN ANY WAY, BUT REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST TOO BEFORE CASING STONE ON A PERSON. IN FACT, NO SIN IS GREATER THAN NONE. WE STILL NEED THE ELECTION TO BE CALLED.

These alleged recordings (if not altered) serve as a reminder of the way politicians on both sides of the isle rip off this country of ours. If these tapes are real, why nothing is been done to prosecute these rascals? We should have an investigation, once there is any indication that corruption is evident we seize ALL their assets including bank accounts for wives, children, auction off properties, and turn all monies over to the treasury.

Well, What more could we expect from a group of dangerous politicians determined to use their power, authority, influence, etc. to commit unlawful acts. And what do people really think of Gaston Browne now they have heard him admitting to the ABLP having people for the particular role of intentionally and deliberately spreading misleading false information to convince the public that something is a certain when it really is not that way. That why I've always suspected that they have people for the particular role of committing crime to make the police and the government look incompetent. ( It was alleged that they were behind the killing of the gas station owner carried out by Black Boy and Herring, and that they moved swiftly to execute Black Boy before he get a chance to squeal)

So it is not only the disgraced banker that was paying "Choko" to rant and rave on ZDK giving the impression that it was the government that had sunk the bank when it was his own doing all along. Choko and his partner in "Westan" were in that kind of business collecting all around. These guys are paid mercenaries who are really running a business on ZDK selling propaganda for a fee. The "Voice" was making money while masquerading as the champion of the "Depressed and down-trodden" picky head people. And the sad thing is that all this was done with the complicity of the hierarchy of the party. God Lord....deliver us from these wicked set of people. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

New Recordings???

#19 Yeah, really? » 2014-04-24 08:46

Your headlines are about new recordings from yeeears ago???..how come this site only made focus on the power plant and left it without doing as much investigative work as it's doing with the ALP from years back..where is the continued, unrelenting investigative reporting on that same power plant issue, matter of fact where is the focus on the numerous extortionately priced roads, fences, and bathrooms (that somehow the UPP said were merely oversights :-* ) unaccounted borrowed and usage of public funds, ridiculously priced and purchased Old buildings, the numerous stalled incomplete and continuously running over budget projects without proper explanation to the public, ridiculous rental contracts, no value for the numerous acres of land being away, the skullduggery that continues to take place at ABEC, the rapping and resulting deterioration of a banking institution caused by the government, the improper usage and tying up of public funds for securing government loans, extravagant lifestyles of public servants that measure way above their earnings...I could type for days...and I haven't even touched on the real shady personal issues of some MP's..but no...all that doesn't matter now when directly associated to current economic conditions of the country...all that doesn't matter at all...cause this site's main investigative focus is dealings of politicians from a period when the island was more economically sound...am I missing something here?

All this PAST nonsense is part of the UPP defense plan - if people cannot see this and the fact that the Caribarena website and its editor have their own personal axe to grind-as UPP are getting more desparate!
How many of you like me are getting UPP "popups" on third party websites- which means that C&W are also being paid off!
We live in fear of Dr BS promise for the future of "social programs" and the now obvious commie and dictatorship asperations, I shudder to think of Antigua's future with UPP, after what we have experienced the last 10 years.

You ABLP people always close your eyes and see.
You guys see wrong and say its right.
I can bet you none of you can go on ZDK and say Cutie should be tried in court.
The wrong that the ALP Politicians do can't compare to UPP.
My father was one of Papa Bird's henchmen and he died a few years ago.
The things that my dad said he used to do for Papa Bird made my body run cold and my older sister would become teary eyed......My mom would just bow her head and make the sign of the cross and say" Lord have Mercy".
It was only since my dad got really sick and was on his dying bed he said he had to clear his conscience. The last thing he said to us was" I want to see God face so me haffu talk de truth".
He went into a coma soon after never to wake again.

There are other members in the ALP different from Lester, Assot, and Molywin who is still willing to make a change and make Antigua a better place. I am not saying that those tapes are not informative to society, but it isnt like the upp is any better, so we will still continue to suffer. If i had my own way, i would have changed the way politics is done here in Antigua. Let the people select the most suitable candidates to leader the country. However, after those members are being selected, they will be signing a petition document. In other words, a document that states " any polititians that get caught up in corruption practices will be dismissed instantly. We the people of this country are to be blamed for the way politics are carried out in our nation. We all need to come together as a nation to eradicate corruption, nepotism from taken over. With this said, " the system needs to be changed".

What are you expecting? When your people of old were suffering under the hands of Pharaoh, God created the greatest Politician in Moses who led them to freedom out of Egypt to the Promise Land. #3 Jumbee Picknee » 2014-04-24 05:21

The ONLY thing which is new here in the world of politics/poilitricks is "new second added to the new minute added to the new hour added to the new day.".
We want to read, discern, digest what the Manifesto's of ALL the Political Party's which are attempting to be a part of the next Government.
This type of reporting should have been done months, years ago with proper investigation done by the Judicial System, to bring charges where necessary and prosecute.
We don't have to turn a rock at Devil's Bridge to find or prove that Politics is a nasty, dirty game. We already know that, and that's a fact; the ONLY winners are the Politicians and their cronies sitting at white linen table cloth, eating and drinking merrily, while the People are fighting like rats under the table for the falling crumbs.
Have anyone seen Ben the Rat? He needs to gather his troops for an attack
