APUA Statement on Financial Woes

APUAAntigua St. John's - There has been much speculation and debate in the public regarding APUA’s recent financial challenges which have affected the company’s ability to meet its existing obligations.

In light of this, the Management of APUA would like to state that it is guided solely by its mandate to provide a service to the people of Antigua & Barbuda, and its governing policies.

As a responsible Corporation, providing an essential utility service to the nation, APUA is bound to its duty to remind customers that, under the terms and conditions of supply, they are obligated to pay their bills as they become due. Customers are also advised to keep their payments up to date in circumstances where special arrangements have been made.

During the latter part of May 2014, APUA has recorded an abnormal decrease in cash inflow due to the failure of customers to pay their bills as is customary. It is possible that this may have been influenced by promises of a shift in policy made in various public forums.

The Authority would therefore like to advise customers that the timely payment of their bills enable the company to provide essential services which contribute to all aspects of the economic and social life of the country. It is for this reason that its standard terms and conditions currently in force disconnects services for non-payment.

APUA would also like to encourage the support and partnership of all Antiguans and Barbudans as it strives to fulfill its mandate.

The Authority is asking that all persons and organizations act responsibly in making statements about policies and operations to avoid any future negative repercussions on any of our stakeholders.

APUA continues to be “necessary for life” through the valuable service it provides to Antigua and Barbuda.

This is UPP's response to Gaston's operation jump start and the Management of APUA have sadly facilitated them. The conclusions are so wild that they hardly merit a response. They have become very transparent.

Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel

For the ALP shills who are genuinely concerned about APUA's money woes and the countrys current account balance the first link is for you. I know you guys are very busy (I noticed you did not show up to excuse the thievery) trying to convince the rest of us that those characters starring on the recordings are the best choice for Antigua at this time..however back to reality
For all the others the second link is for you. This is what Forbes magazine and the World Bank has to say about Antigua and Barbuda on the eve of the 2014 elections.
I remember back in the 'good ole days' under ALP whenever we were mentioned in the global media the catch words were 'most corrupt', corrupt Bird dynasty, gun running, money laundering, black list, crime syndicate etc etc.

sky lights, ransons and solar panels

#19 Jumbee Picknee » 2014-06-05 13:49

Skylights,, transoms and solar panels are inexpensive items which, when well placed in designs, will do wonders for a building from air flow, to light and heat transfer between spaces, and not to mention reduction in utillity bills.
Water, of course cisterns or wells with proper filtration systems.

For the love of Pete. I fail to comprehend why APUA switched to this "likkle penis" logo! The thing just annoys me. All the exhorbitant prices paid to "reBRAND" and dem still a wallow in de mud? Please revert to the original logo jack. At least then you were making a profit

QUESTION - Why would anyone bother to pay their outstanding utility bills if they are fairly confident the Opposition will win the elections? It is the most irresponsible thing a political leader could say. Why not wait until after he wins the election to give away these freebies? This is a sign of things to come if the ALP wins - more and more irresponsible and irrational (not to mention, corrupt) acts.

Who is the new Chairman of the Borad since Clarvis rode off into the sunset?
And why the hell does APUA keep overcharging people on their bills?? I know for sure that the house I live in is NOT hooked up to a hotel in anyway, yet you should see the bill they sent me. I have to wonder what the hell is going on in my little Antigua. Advantage never done! This gov't decided to "knuckle" APUA with Digicel and from since then, APUA can't ketch e self. Heaven help us all

WHAT!

#13 Ari Sulivan » 2014-06-05 09:02

APUA cannot collect revenue for the Month of May 2014, Because of the directive issued by Baldwin Spencer not to disconnect any services until after elections.
APUA management needs to stop playing politics. Also APUA need to say why overdue salaries are not PAID in FULL ..............hummmm m :-*
MONTHLY workers are going to banks only to realize that their full salaries are not being paid.......i.e. subject A who receives $5500/Montly when to the bank and only received $2200 for the pay period.
HOW ARE WORKERS TO LIVE, PAY BILLS, EAT, ........
My only rational is that Since the Directive was handed down from the TOP it means that the $3300 that is outstanding is going to be paid after elections since there isn't money and APUA wont be collecting until after JUNE 12, 2014. DEAR I SAY there are recordings and a paper trail that is linked to the PM......telecoms :zzz

You know while I do feel very sorry for the employees who need their pay. I have no sympathy for APUA what so ever. How many millions did they spend on rebranding and changing their logo was that an absolute necessity ?? I am being ripped off every month by APUA with outrageous bills for electricity for electricity that I KNOW I CAN NOT POSSIBLY be consuming. APUA has a board that are all political hacks who don't care about the company and are just filling their pockets. Everyone should stop paying them period until they get it together and stop ripping off people.

#10 wadadman1 » 2014-06-05 07:50

Apua use to be very profitable with pcs generating the most money, the only division that was not making any money at the time was the water division. Then in 2004 the general manager was fired and a political crony was appointed and that person brought apua to it knees.

#9 Meigo Man » 2014-06-05 07:30

It is standard practice that the Government would instruct APUA not to disconnect the customers up to months before the election!
xx sent a directive to APUA not to disconnect customers until after the election! Unfortunately, APUA's cash flow is so precarious that they can't handle this directive. :-x :-x :-x

Thiefing Thieves

#8 Mr Byam » 2014-06-05 07:10

SMDH,
Obviously they are not disconnecting service to the utility thieves in a timely manner. One month is the only grace period anyone should receive, and then all services should be disconnected. Then after you’ve been disconnected, you should be required to deposit 3 month’s of utility payments with APUA before service is resumed. And in APUA’s defense, when they attempted to disconnect the thiefing ZDK rascals, some foreign judge issued an injunction.

#7 Dig It » 2014-06-05 07:03

It is amazing that APUA is blaming its customers for its "financial woes" but not management, who allowed us to bargain "pure junk" in the new wpp. I guess that has become a thing of the past with them and their Great Negotiator. Who will be ambassador of the year in 2014? Many can't pay their bills and some are doing their to pay on time but the statutory board is not tighten its own belt and continue to mismanage its the peoples money.

#6 Amazed » 2014-06-05 06:59

If this is Mr Martins conclusion of why there is a significant drop in receipts for May, then I can understand why APUA is not doing well. The leadership at APUA is at a total lost and is incapable of knowing what is going wrong with APUA and how to fix the problems. A matter of fact they are the ones making it fail due their extremely weak analytical skills. No matter who wins it is a clear indication that Martin has to go and all other top executive be appraised.

Smdh move to the head of the class. The statement from Browne came late in may (after the 20th). Strangely apua .now claims based in a letter dated my 30th they having cash flow problems. What is telling is persons forget the debt forgiveness promise is not new. It was stated by the alp before the 2009 elections how come apaua had no publicly stated debt collection problems then? were we not facing a cat 5.storm then? Apau's problem proves that the economic situation has worsened

There ARE agreements in place for customers of APUA who were disconnected (with balances from months ago) to pay monthly. That is standard in any company - you arrange to pay what you owe. 8) Some a dem tap pay once dem hear de announcement bout write-off! :-x

Mr. Esworth Martin is the cousin of Mr. Baldwin Spencer and is obviously playing politics instead of running the corporation. Martin and Spencer bankrupted APUA and should both be fired.

What would APUA do, if the People start utilizing the Sun's power in their business's and home's?
They would be out of business then. The Board for this body, seems to be clueless, as to how, to design, build, implement, incorporate, new technogies to move this company forward.

#1 SMDH » 2014-06-05 05:31

How can a promise to wipe off monies owed as at December 2013 affect APUA cash collections? I am assuming that if you have a balance OUTSTANDING as at December 2013, APUA would have already disconnected the customer thus NOT having an effect on cash collections in MAY 2014. APUA you are really grasping at straws.
Now if you said the statement and letter stating that NO disconnections will be done PRIOR to elections now THAT would have a devastating domino effect on cash collections.
