Gas Station Worker Detained in Murder Probe

Dorothy Prince. photo- thedominican.netAntigua St John's - The police have detained a female service attendant for questioning about the murder of Dorothy Prince during the recent robbery of Dee’s Service Station. The woman was said to be an employee of the service station.

Police spokesman William Holder said pickups like these are common in such investigations, and likened the process to the Mullany murder investigation years ago.

He said the force is looking to “put the pieces of the puzzle” together, and more people would likely be held for questioning as information is gathered from those already in custody.

Sources have told Caribarena.com that Prince may have known at least one of the assailants, and identified him almost instantly.

Holder confirmed that one of the women questioned so far was an employee of Dee’s Service Station, but declined to provide any further details.

He acknowledged that although the assailants were men, there was room for female co-conspirators and possibly another person as the getaway driver.

The Constitution allows the police to detain suspects for 48 hours. Reportedly, there were suspects detained on Tuesday who are still in custody.

Subsequent attempts to contact Holder to clarify this were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, other information from the police said the post mortem on 29-year-old Demetri Samuel late of Bolans Village was conducted on Wednesday.

A death certificate was issued stating that the cause of death was acute respiratory failure due to pulmonary edema and congestion.

Samuel died after he was rushed to the hospital complaining of chest pain on January 31.

Tenman, I echo your sentiment. Said another way, you cannot have the fox guard the hen house.

Let the police do their work

#9 skyewill » 2012-02-24 10:54

I am confident that the Police will capture the killers and all will be brought to justice. It is amazing that people think that they can get away with such a crime but in Antigua too many people take everyone else for idiots. The only reason the did it is because they believe thay will get away with it. Not so. Me back our police officers. wish the government would do more for them. Now I also believe that when it comes to such heavy crimes with that level of violence we are going to have to also look for rouge officers and soldiers their psychological conditioning is a key factor and if you have a weak mind they can be the threat. MOST of the officers are good people and need our support. This incident upset a lot of people and we are going to catch the perps.

@ attendent, the laws does state that you can be held for 48 hours. For a fact I also know that in certain first, second and third world countries it is similar law and when they do let you go after passing the door onto the streets they can hold you back again for another 48 hours. Due to the fact that 48 hours requirement had expired and they did release and free you.

After this if you want to argue that point you can but again, you must have your lawyer argue that point and whiles he/she is. they still have you for questioning and this is if you are in one of the countries above that knows how to use the laws of the lands.

The police should take a page from the book of the ONDCP and make sure that their applicants are thoroughly vetted and given some sort of security clearance before being accepted

the added shock

#5 tenman » 2012-02-24 07:53

The added shock lies in the other two suspects, which if proven further justifies public suspicion for at least the past ten years. Its high time we had a real entity to watch the watchers.

guard&cashier

#4 carvaa » 2012-02-24 06:33

Did the manager of Dee's said a guard along with a cashier was on duty inside while this hold up and shooting was taking place? Is this Station equip with a panic **on? combine these two along with a great 911 technology and our quick response team or great police patrolling the ending might have been a little less tearfull. Were there road blocks conducted along the many roads and bi-ways leading away from Dee's Service Station as soon as the call went through? i guess not since we don't have enough police vehicles to pull off such job.

If at the end of the day these person(s) get off by virtue of lapses in this 48 hour requirement then the whole senior police constabularly should be sacked.

Man to man is soo unjust children you dont know who to trust...

I hope the police dont mess up this one. Ensure you stick to the T and adress the issues as dictate by law. I hope there is not a conspiracy to mess up this one given the allegations surrounding the individuals or individuals involved.

If after gathering information it's discovered that she had a hand in the robbery they should hang her and the policeman TWICE. "IF" the bit if them could violate the trust placed in them, they have to right to breathe the same air that the victims children are breathing. HANG THEM TWICE!!!
