HMB Holdings Director Resonds to Sale News

R- Natalia M. Querard, Minister John MaginleyDear Editor , In spite of my best effort to produce a reasonable response to the "news" of yet another sale of Half Moon Bay, I have been unable to do so.

This same story of many developers at the brink of commitment to redevelop Half Moon Bay has been announced by government ministers since Allen Stanford made his first "deal" with the Government in the late 1990s, and as recently as mid-November 2013 (See your report "Conflicting Reports About HMB Sale", November 15, 2013 ). None of the announcements ever provided complete information.  None of the announced transactions were ever consummated.

This latest version is no different, for many good reasons.

The most obvious is its timing. It defies even the most devoted partisan credulity that any investor, legitimate or otherwise, would sign an agreement to purchase ( let alone actually purchase!) a property ten days before Her Majesty’s Privy Council is scheduled to hear arguments in order to establish the value of the property in question and the cost of its "acquisition" to its seller - the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

This announcement is not newsworthy. In fact, what seems more likely is that Minister Maginley got carried away by his own rhetoric at a political rally, and has been backpedalling ever since.

I leave it up to you to publish this letter -- or simply to continue ignoring this entire episode as a waste of time and space.

Natalia M. Querard, Managing Director
H.M.B. Holdings Limited

I notice you indicated that all Antiguans should oppose Querard, because according to you her co-shareholders and staff said she is not a nice person, and that if Maginlly lied he was following in the steps of the previous administration. But lets set the records straight, it was Minister of Finance Harold Lovell who was Querards lawyer, along with the same UPP administration who supported her against the then ALP government, for doing the very thing that the UPP government is now doing! How can the UPP claim any moral authority in this matter when in exchange of her support while they were trying to take the government in 2004, they promised to return the property to her with a huge compensation package! The woman is obviously upset because she got stabbed in the back! I really have no sympathy for either her or the UPP gang that made her promises using the scarce natural resources of this nation ! As far as I am concerned they all should burn in hell for what they have done to that property, which is depriving Antiguans and Barbudans of gainful employment to feed themselves and their families!

How many people or entities has this Government walked on sinct they have taken office. They are not working for us the people and are giving Antigua a bad reputation around the world! Our Honorable Government took possession of N. Querards land, didn't pay for it and now are going to sell it?? If I took your car and tried to sell it, do you think that would be ok??? What are these guy's thinking? They are out to lunch!!!

We owe this Lady her money! We should pay her and thank her for her patience!! Then go after the Honorable Officers of this Country and put them in Jail!! They aren't hurting Ms. Querard, she will get hers. Its the Government thinking they could walk on someone..... I would like to see a full disclosure on Simon, Lovell, and Spencer!!! It's not right what they have been doing to our Country and they should be punished for it!! So I say Vote Them Out then Take them to Court!! AND FOLLOW ALL THE FUNDS THAT WERE PAID TO THEIR ATTORNEYS GROUP>>>> :-*

#11 just wondering » 2014-01-20 13:24

I was under the impression that when a Government makes a compulsory purchase it is in the best interest of the country and to be used for a public purpose. It would appear then that a Government can compulsory purchase anyone's property and then sell to whom they wish.
Can anyone enlighten me ?

Well Our Government can sell HMB to who ever after the really pay for it... It will be well over 100 Mill USD then will have to pay shortly...! Odd for them to claim they have an investor ready to buy it ? How is it???? As for paying for HMB We all know Lovell will be in Court in the UK in a few days to be told how to do his Job... Yes the 75 Mill is now due in full as is all the Lawyers fees as well.

Now the court my order this payment to be made within 7 to 10 days... So well be fore we all have to vote will we really know what this last Government has cost us. In 2007 they where to pay 45 Mill now we are paying 2 times that if not more. Simon, Lovell and yes Spencer have cost us so so much more. As Skyewill stated change is coming.

In 1990 the value of Half Moon bay then was no where near what the inflated price it is to today.

In addition there was no middle man like the Perry who wasted years in speculated costs! In addition, the then Government did not complete the acquisition of the property (which the UPP vehemently opposed) as the UPP ate their vomit and did do!

While I agree that no sensible investor, certainly not an institutional investor would purchase in the middle of controversy. **s and criminals would. Maginley and the administration knows they must close HMB before election. HMB is like a big anchor around their necks. However, if it is sold without transparency and too far below what is owed with no corporative plan to recover the additional cost to the public this will be another proof that they have no clue and not enough cognitive capacity to manage the country. Then this becomes awkward for hem because good thinking folks will wonder if this is another desperado move that will hurt the country in the future when the REAL DEAL is exposed. Have they given away the store in order to look good? HMB is 100 million USD in the hole and will take serious creativity to make it work and this group of pet rocks do not have the mental ACCOUTREMENTS to do this right. LACK OF ACCOUTREMENTS AND DESPERATE = DESASTER. We have to change this. CHANGE IS COMING IN 9 WEEKS!

If Maginley lied, then he is only following in the foot steps of the former administration, because according to Ms Querard ( whom all Antiguans should oppose- just talk to her former co-shareholders and staff, she is not a nice person) the talk of sale started in the late 1990s.
I guess the UPP was in power then.

Why one of those ministers can not purchase HMB if its such a great deal. They should have enough of the peoples money in their pockets.

Why is it that Ms Querard, finds it necessary to respond and discount to everything considering Moon Bay?? I realize she wants her money but not every occurrence requires a letter to the media. Perhaps Asot MIcheal was right when he stated the Ms Querard is an enemy of the state of Antigua.
