LOW EARTH ORBIT – Father Forgive Them

Father Forgive ThemThey know not what they do. With all humility Yours Truly admits failure to find other words at this time to deal with the utter shambles that the United Progressive Party administration has become.

Not that those words are all that can be applied – far from it – but that short simple version of the Serenity Prayer will serve admirably as the motif for what follows … as we continue to chart the erratic trail laid down by the stumbling UPP.

Yours Truly is not yet prepared to bet the rent money on a UPP self-defeat in March 2014: far too much water has yet to pass under the bridge before then, even in these drought conditions. And while as a student of history I can draw a conclusion from the trend of current events as well as anyone, I also dabble in Pop Music Philosophy as a sideline – and one of my favorite song titles is: “What a Difference a Day Makes”.

Even as we wise (in our own eyes) higher beings pursue our well-laid plans, unknown forces are at work … impulses originating from some source far beyond our ken … real life circumstances that descend out of the blue and change the entire game. Some three hundred and sixty-two days remain till that fateful day in March 2014 when the electorate must exercise their judgment on ruling party and opposition alike. Any number of imponderable developments will have an opportunity to choose any one of those days to make an entrance, subtle or dramatic, and change the entire game.

So Yours Truly will continue to keep a sharp lookout for my closest buddy Murphy, and for my little shadow the Law of Unintended Consequences – not to mention my roommate: the Law of Circumstances that Ought to Have Been Foreseen – But Weren’t.

That latter field of jurisprudence is very much on my mind right now, as I process the masses of data spewing out of my multiple redundant overlapping intelligence gathering systems – a merely Herculean task … I can knock that off in a minute.

I wish it were that easy to slough off the sense that in the ruling UPP we have a political clique masquerading as a political party: and by that I mean a bunch of people who have found themselves blessed to be drafted into a political representative role by a hurting community – but have never had any clear idea of what they are supposed to be doing, and how to go about doing it.

To put it another way: The UPP is made up of people who think they are politicians, but lack the firm ethical base for their judgments, decisions and actions that can only come from having a clear ideology to guide their thinking. Lacking a shared ideology or any kind of “group-think” other than the impulse toward self-interest, the ruling party staggers like a rudderless vessel from one political debacle to another. Captain, cook and crew alike have no idea where their ship ought to be headed – or worse … where it is actually going.

The ruling party lacks a sound ideological foundation for its behavior in office. This deficiency accounts for the many brazen “flip-flops” that have separated the once trusted UPP from its voting constituency. Yours Truly continues to firmly reject the self-serving notion that the United Progressive Party has anything that can be called a “base”. The evidence of the Mind of the Nation Poll supports the conclusion that what the UPP really has is a constituency – and one that it is not serving at all well.

This condition is remarkably odd, considering the ideological background from which the men occupying the two top leadership spots in the UPP spring. Who could ever have imagined that a Baldwin Spencer … renowned survivor of Cooks Pond Water, nurtured in the bowels of Labour, star of the Antigua & Barbuda Workers Union whose motto is “Where There Is No Vision the People Perish” could prove so erratic in his pursuit of socially beneficial objectives? And who would have imagined that a Harold Lovell, schooled in the liberation ideologies of the Antigua-Caribbean Liberation Movement, would let the flame turn to cold ashes in the service of political expediency?

And yet the spectacle is written large for all to see: a ruling party that has lost all of its early credibility, floundering around aimlessly as it tries to project an image of “good governance” to an unreceptive body politic. Having started life 9 years ago as a desperately needed “rescue mission”, the UPP administration has been granted its two terms – and continues to survive mainly on the sufferance of a disillusioned electorate. Only the generalized public disdain for the opposition Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party keeps the floodgates of rejection closed: voters are content to let time and rope play themselves out, rather than usher the ABLP back into office one day sooner than absolutely necessary.

When the opportunity presents itself though, voters are quite capable of sending a resounding warning to the party in power. This they did last Friday in Barbuda. The question now is whether the hapless UPP has the capacity to decipher the warning, or the ability to process the information into usable political capital. In other words: can the ruling party adapt to a challenging political environment, craft a convincing message, and chart a course to a successful outing at the polls in 2014? At this point in time the smart money is saying that the UPP will fall far short of achieving that objective.

When faced with a similar challenge in the aftermath of the 2009 general elections the delusional UPP government retreated further into its fantasy world – and since then appears to be intent on digging itself deeper into its own political grave. That metaphor recalls the days before 2004 when it was popular to liken the lame-duck ALP to an ostrich with its head buried in the sand. The lame-duck UPP apparently intends to outdo the ALP … and bury its whole body.

Derrick was super lazy. he did not answer any emails and never produced anything. To make things worse his word is no good and he is a looser, could not beat Gaston if you gave him an elephant. On the other hand Stuart, Mr. yes sir boss, yes , yes, yes, yes get the picture. those people usually wake up and when they do its ususlly because of a broken promise, so they become gilted and their feelings hurt. they realized all those yeses have earned them nothing but "NO RESPECT", that lack of respect makes them rebell but it also make it easy for the boss to get rid of what he (the boss) believe is a Puzzy. Parker and David days are numbered. They, no one respects them not even the bums at Kennedy Rum Shop down by market. They let Baldwin Punk them.

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Fight For The Addled Eggs In The IMF's NEST! PT4

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! Quote:
Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman, Be he live, or be he dead I'll grind his bones to make my bread
Many say the recent Purge of the UPP was most clinical. Already the long knives are being drawn to plunge once more into the ACLM Communist Boogeyman. On the Rock, no one takes blame for failed actions. The Black Elites know not True North.
Let the record show that the good man declared since the 90's that he had changed his politics, hence his ready embrace of the IMF NEST while dancing to Romantic Rhythms. Some say that after his sojourn in the North Atlantic, African American feminine mystique & wiles a la Salome & Herod had delivered his head on a platter to Uncle SAM's Johnbull & the Royal Court of St. James. Ask Thonny, The Elector, who was the comrade skilled in the use of cutla$$ plana$$ing? Ask Luther Lee, Bleau, Corty et al of the LTHMC of the good man's turning which they have slept on for nearly two decades.
Enter the Gang of Four, Quote:
I smell the blood of (Crusoe), ... be he dead I'll grind his bones to make my bread
Oh Gad! Is This A Dream! Pray Fuh Mi Picknees!

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Fight For The Addled Eggs In The IMF's NEST! PT3

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! Quote:
Little Jack Horner Sat in the corner, Eating a Christmas pie; He put in his thumb, And pulled out a plum, And said, "What a good boy am I!"
Enter the Sunshine Kids, some in rags, some in jags & some in lettered velvet gowns aided & abetted by a black petit bougeoisie who like coloured Loving, Shervington & others, even though freed in 1834 & leading major institutions yearning to be rid of their African Background abandoned with joyful glee any trace of the past. It was a new day for a blending of various political thoughts with no vision, mission & values but driven by ethical badmindedness to be rid of VC & the Thirty Niners which would wash them of the enslaved past as they eagerly & joufully embraced the Colonials in their midst. A Party tied to no Moorings. Today the apologists of this lack of consciousness with artificial cultural & political boundaries marked by hatred for VC & The Thirty Niners have lost their Location in Time & Space to the Bretton Woods Cabal, Buccaneers, Privateers in the World Bank, IMF, IFC & Paris Bank. They fell into the Venus fly Trap who's exit is a slow Death.

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Fight For The Addled Eggs In The IMF's NEST! PT2

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock!Quote:
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet Eating her curds & whey, Along came a spider, Who sat down beside her & frightened Miss Muffet away.
The Political, Social & Economic Developments from the 50's t0 the late 80's created an education revolution which severely undermined the wisdom & experiences of the Ancestors & Parents. It had a devastating effect on the vision, mission & values which the unlettered Politicos of the ABLP brought to the Country. VC & his comrade Thirty Niners did not understand that they were developing a class of deracinated, decentered & disoriented Black Youth lacking in Agency who saw their parents as unfit to lead them. It was a major constructural adjustment where this new Antiguan developed relationships where they did not see themselves as agents & participants but as marginals on the periphery of the social, economic & technological environment. Politics was seen as a means of increasing one's terminal wealth while leaving the rest to Foreign Buccaneers & Privateers. They yearned for the Legal Politician as in other SIDS. Hence major industries are alienated from the People.

Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Fight For The Addled Eggs In The IMF's NEST!

#7 John French II » 2013-03-26 12:55

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! All have sinned & come short. They are deficient in regard to Political Vision & are lacking Social & Economic Values. Here it means, that they had failed to obtain, or were destitute of any Technological Advancement. Consequently are equally helpless & guilty. Why one should be preferred before another, only the good lord knows since his endless mercy embraces just & unjust.
The WB & IMF are projecting growth for this SIDS at less than 2%. Who will communicate to the Bewildered & Bemused Electorate the dire State of Affairs on the Rock for the next 20 to 30 years? Quote:
Tweedledum and Tweedledee Agreed to have a battle; For Tweedledum said Tweedledee Had spoiled his nice new rattle. Just then flew down a monstrous crow, As black as a tar-barrel; Which frightened both the heroes so, hey quite forgot their quarrel.
The ABLP lost its moorings with the ascendancy of the young lettered turks with VC's decline in the late 80's. No longer were they tied to their Socialist Worker Moorings. Their flirtations with Buccaneers & Privateers undermined their Modus Vivendi & Operandi and sowed seeds of discord & irrelevance.

What is troubling is that everything is everyone else's fault but theirs. They are guilty of nothing, oh I forgot, the PM did say they made some mistakes.

Colin their actions show that they were never believers. It is from their actions we should judge them. It was telling hearing a government minister suggest that government workers, in part, are to be blamed for the Barbuda loss. Remind me why again, should I vote for politicians who cannot ensure proper policies are in place to ensure the efficiency of persons they should direct?

Coiln a well written piece, short and to the point. Its a pity though UPP is soo deluding themselves i think they are far gone. really sad commentary. The country had such high hopes coming out of years of poor governance by the ALP instead what we got was the same book with a blue and yellow cover. the party lacks leadership, a clear vision, it has no ideology flip flopping through every decision. 17 ministers in 17 kingdoms no unity of purpose.
