LOW EARTH ORBIT – The Good People

Blind-shepherdsYours Truly actually has no idea who the Reverend Paul Edwards might be. Use of the title “Reverend” before his name suggests one of the “mainstream” denominations like Methodist, Moravian, Pentecostal, Baptist, maybe even Wesleyan Holiness, though I’m not sure.

There may be other Christian denominations established locally whose ordained leaders are called Reverend, but the impression I have is that most religious leaders outside of those just mentioned usually go by the title “Pastor”.

This is not to slight or exclude the Roman Catholic and Anglican Churches: the title “Reverend”
automatically rules out priests and leaders who are addressed as “Father”. And of course there are other options: quite a few religious leaders these days are being hailed as “Apostle”. That started happening after “Bishops” became a glut on the market.

So the odds are that the Rev Paul Edwards is not the Pastor of either an Evangelical or an Independent congregation. Of course, I could be entirely off-base on all of this, and the truth is I’ve made no effort to check it out. I probably will get around to that little detail later, but right now I’m going on faith and the theory that the aforesaid reverend is the genuine article, the real McCoy, an actual in-the-flesh leader of a bona fide religious denomination established and operating in Antigua & Barbuda.

Yours Truly is also going on the assumption, made with all due respect for the writer, that the message penned by the Rev Paul Edwards and published at his request by Caribarena (A Golden Opportunity Missed – March 26) comes straight from the heart of the goodly gentleman, and represents the groaning of a spirit in torment. As a point of reference for this statement I draw to the reader’s attention a letter penned by another Reverend (I believe) Kevin Liddie, appearing in the Daily Observer of March 27.

Just as with the Rev Paul Edwards, let us please afford to the Rev Kevin Liddie the same presumption of complete heartfelt sincerity. Let us also subscribe to the belief that both these men of “the Cloth” are at this moment figuratively girded in sackcloth, thickly doused with ashes, and writhing on the ground in a mutual state of pure spiritual torture. Their agonies will have been triggered by the terrible message implicit in their writings – a message that exhorts those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ to “Really Return to God”.

Both religious leaders believe the sufferings of the nation are the direct temporal result of spiritual failure within “The Church,” which theology tells us is the Body of Christ. As Yours Truly understands it, the “Body of Christ” consists of those whom the Savior has purchased with the Blood of Sacrifice, and who confess Him before men. Christ is the Head of the Church, which is His Bride. Both reverend gentlemen submit that the Body of Christ has somehow separated itself from its Head: that the Bride of Christ has parked her Husband somewhere in a corner and gone off to dance with someone nicer.

I know: neither of the reverend gentlemen stated the issue in quite so irreverent a manner, but pick sense from nonsense – the message both religious leaders bring to a sorely deluded and sadly misled flock is that “the Church” has manifestly failed in her proper service to God, her Husband.

Reverend Paul Edwards in particular rips the veil of pretence and hypocrisy away from the pappy-show socio-political shindig that took place last March 20 (by coincidence the day of the Vernal Equinox – possibly transforming the event into a pagan festival). Yours Truly finds it significant in a demonic way that only the Reverends Paul Edwards and Kevin Liddie have been heard to raise a voice against the absurdity of so-called “religious leaders” responding to a call from politicians to “bring the nation together in a day of prayer and fasting to heal our suffering land from the scourge of crime.”

How eagerly did the establishment clerics respond to the call from their earthly superiors to bring their special talents to bear in the service of national politics! How willingly did the blind shepherds flock to the political standard, bringing their pastoral goodwill as blessing for an exercise in religious smoke and mirrors, exhorting their gullible congregations to fast and pray for better times in an accursed land whose God is the Lord … the people say.

Yes … the “good people” were all there – well some of them, anyway. Any smart, ambitious, person who aspires to be or remain a member of the political “in” crowd that currently rules the roost in our finely feathered land had to show their face in the place – or otherwise have a very good excuse, like triple bypass heart surgery.

The tragedy of the whole thing is that among the hypocritical horde thronging around the Caesars of the day were far too many people – priests and pastors among them – who believe that the proper partner for “the Church” is political power … and that the proper duty of “the Church” is to subordinate itself in the service of worldly power.

That this compromising, self-serving and downright blasphemous posture makes a mockery of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ completely escapes your average time-serving cleric, who is only doing what “the Church” has done ever since it chose to ally itself with Roman imperial power as a quick route to world dominance. From that unholy alliance has sprung a multitude of evils. Our world has suffered the poisonous effects of that historic compromise from then till now, as “the Church” frolicked in bed with the world.

And now earnest religious leaders are beseeching a deceitful generation to “really return to God”, when these deluded “good people” have no idea they ever left. After all, the “good people” know a thoughtful Jesus Christ challenged the powers of the world – and in doing so defeated death – to make the world safe for compromise.

Besides, the “good people” know these are the Last Days … aren’t they?

@ bloggers please if you have not read yesterdays LOW EARTH ORBIT by Colin Sampson please do and be the judge as to what the professor is saying. It was late at night so some of you may not have read the exchange. @professor - I woke up early this morning and responded to someone blogging by the name of; Antiguan. Who made a great observation of your weak attempt to discredit me, simply because I am not what you want me to be. it was so inspiring that instead of responding to Antiguan in the blog because I was having so much fun watching you crumble I decided to respond via an article I titled @ Antiguan. I have not submitted it as yet. but it a doosey. I did not submit it as yet because I did not want it publish on the weekend for maximum effect. Fellow bloggers when I was on the fence and rightfully so he loved me. But then everyone knows that being on the fence is really not a good option. some will be slower than others but Look at the mess you are reading in this very article IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? So I made a choice as it is my right to and now the attacks have begun. well I expected them and worst is to come. I may not

Say What?

#22 Antiguan » 2013-03-28 23:58

Pardon my interjection but, to me, its amazing to read and hear on the radio all these various pronouncements by different persons. Mark you, its an individual's right to do as he pleases but where were all these individuals months ago when various battles were being fought? Its always interesting to see that around election time everyone comes out of the woodwork to 'run' the country. Why don't persons place their mouth and money where and when it can help during the times in between elections? When unwanted policies are introduced or on other occasions.
It seems really fashionable to pay mostly lip service these days and then the only solution after that is to offer ourselves as a sacrifice to take on these political jobs.
As the PLM/UPP learned educated, honourable,well-fina nced may not be the only 'traits' that a candidate needs to be a good politician these days.
Ask V.C.- Of the three only one applied to him. (You choose.)
These new parties,if they are serious, need to be started EARLY, not close to an election. Two or three years is preferable where what these individuals or party are really about can be thoroughly examined.

That was too easy. So I'll answer. The rabies incubation period is the length of time between infection with the rabies virus and the onset of symptoms. While the incubation period for rabies may vary from a few days to several years, it usually lasts one to three months. During the rabies incubation period, a bite from the infected animal does not carry a risk of rabies because the virus is not yet in the saliva.
REF:
eMedtv. Health information brought to life (2013) retrieved March 28, 2013 from: http://rabies.emedtv.com/rabies/rabies-incubation-period.html
In any case the rabise virus is in the seliva of the animal and it can take a very long time for it to get to this stage. The brain sucome to inflamation but the rest of the animal as long as it is fresh meat will not kill you...BOOOOOYA!! Professor you are a glut for punishment...Dog meat anyone? I ma a G.I. I will eat your dog also

I went to the hot tub for 45 minutes and zzz best, Lord Have Mercy have not given us any answers to the reasonably asked question & Professor want to play tricks (tricks are for kids) by answering a question with a question, clearly an attempt to avoid the posed question. Smart but not cleaver. I am going to listen to Serpy for a minute and come back and see if they got there CHIT together. Reminds me of the day when I used to bang 3 guys from boys school at one time in Grammer school east pasture.

so instead of answering the question, you want to come back with another question totally evading your assignment. I was not taught like that. I am almost completed with your profile. You want answers but refuse to give answers. In a debate first you answer the question then you pose your question. i done told you that you do not deserve any answers cause you are not even in the game. Your horse is not even in the race and you still want us to place our bet on him. I wish I could face to face with you so I can really expound. I know who I am and that old trick will not work on me you see, I am the p**s. I taught that class last semister. You are going to play fair or not and stop playing games. you do not answer a question with a question. foul...penality! :-*

No I will eat 2 for dinner then put the other 2 in the fridge and eat them for breakfast in the morning. You know where I am going with this don't you?. I see you every now and then. All I have to say pick who you know is the best for you and support your guy. I will not tell anyone who to vote for. not saying Browne is perfect but Where is the choice. He wants to be PM and out of all of them he has never been so the way I figure he could not be any worse than any in the past. He is talking good and the other is saying nothing. His base is growing and the others are losing ground. 1 individual can make a difference they all know that but because it is not convenient for them now they got another story. MLK was 1 man, Gandhi was 1 man. Obama is one man A prime minister is a strong position. This guy is no silver spooner and I believe him when he says he want to Empower the people.. The current government will tell you they bought in so many investments. Look at what these so called investors pay people $280 EC that’s $107.69 per week. These are not the type of investors we need

Timing is Everything! Whata Difference a Year Makes!

#15 Lord Have Mercy » 2013-03-28 21:19

Antigua People, pleased be advised that:
Starting early last year, there have been a number of meetings of influential, financially secure Antiguans in New York, Toronto and London to decide on where they are going to put their money next election.

The consensus is that it is time for te UPP to go. Much admiration was expressed for GB, but his choice of AM as his second in command is widely regarded as a deal breaker. They are currently vettng candidates.

Similarly, it is widely known that campaign finance from the Hadeed Fortune is up for grabbs, because UPP does not qualify and GB is in Bed with what might be regarded i those circles as "Bad Company".

Mark my word, third party or not, Antigua will definitely see a slate of honorable, well-financed candidates that are not attached to ALP or UPP. They will surface with an Economic Revitaliztion Plan prepared by a lauded economist from the London School of Economics.

Let us see if Filthy Lucre can beat the Man with the PLAN.

You say you do not want to go back, yet you have joined the choir of The New Battie & Po (GB/AM) and the ABLP Say After me Songsters, which you know only means one thing ... Corruption! Corruption! Corruption!

Am I to believe that because we do not want to go back to Lester or Baldwin we should get on board with the DEVIL to go to the worst place we have ever been? "No Dice ..." (de monarch)

When Lester was the Constitutional King and AM was the trusted sidekick, who sat on the right hand of the Monarch, it was GB who rallied the ALP MP's to demand the removal of AM from office. I am completely shocked and dissapointed to witness GB going back on all that I know he stood for. AM's money could not entice the GB that I know and used to respect. I guess the hunger for power can create the strangest of Bedfellows.

Please go watch MSNBC where gay rights and gun control is the order of the day for your president. whats best for Antigua is if we get a viable third party, both parties are corrupt. next time you talk to your man crush ask him about the $300,000 he got from Standford for the community. He paved the alley in point and then send the bill to public works.

True to his Man Crush The genius from Johnson asked,

Quote:
We tried Lester Bird he failed, we tried Baldwin Spencer he failed, why not try a smart, young Antiguan in Gaston Browne?
The answer is simple: Because he comes with baggage that is undoubtedly much worst than Lester and Baldwin combined, and some people cannot Pretend like they do not know that to be the truth

Skyewill, you claim to be such an excellent researcher, but your infatuation with Gaston Brown has prevented you from doing the research on the Devil in the Red Dress that is pulling his strings.

#6 Truth Be Told » 2013-03-28 16:17

"The church is God's appointed agency for the salvation of men. It was organized for service, and its mission is to carry the gospel to the world. From the beginning it has been God's plan that through His church shall be reflected to the world His fullness and His sufficiency. The members of the church, those whom He has called out of darkness into His marvelous light, are to show forth His glory. The church is the repository of the riches of the grace of Christ; and through the church will eventually be made manifest, even to "the principalities and powers in heavenly places," the final and full display of the love of God. Ephesians 3:10. "

We tried Lester Bird he failed, we tried Baldwin Spencer he failed, why not try a smart, young Antiguan in Gaston Browne? I strongly believe a strong Prime Minister can make all the difference in Antigua. The bottom line is we are heading in the wrong direction and a change is needed urgently. Political parties come and go....the leadership is what makes the difference.

Skyewill - He will need our help and he is asking for it. They will lists all the great investments they bought on island - Those employed Makes as little as $280 EC that's $107.70cents US A WEEK... UNCLE LEROY SAY - While we go back to slavery once again. They talk of progress, love and justice peace and unity - ALL ILLUSIONS - A CASE OF WATER IS $38.00....HELL TO THE NO! :-|

Politics and religions

#3 JD » 2013-03-28 14:48

Good points, Mr Sampson. Politics and religion shouldn't mix - the first seems intent on destroying our souls/purpose in live, the other should be doing the opposite (helping us to 'find' our souls/purpose in life). We should not get confused by this contradiction.

@ SKYE ... TWO QUESTIONS 4 U

#2 Professor » 2013-03-28 14:39

As an American citizen, who is active involved in American politics and is a student of many academic disciplines, I am sure you can recall that when US presidential candidates put fourth plans, proposals and programs, there is an immediate call from the media, academia and the opposing political parties for the candidate to BACK UP HIS CHAT with documented FACTS and FIGURES. At a very minimum, US Presidential Candidates are required to show the American People how they intend to pay for their POLITICAL PROMISES.

1. Are you prepared to hold Gaston Brown to the same standard and stand up on behalf of the Antigua you claim to love dearly and demand that he show us the People of this country his PLANS and PROGRAMS for ANTIGUA and BARBUDA in Black & White? He promised to deliver them to the People, but John French II and the Nation is still waiting.

2. How much time do you believe is reasonable for him to deliver the PLAN that he said already exist, to the People of Antigua and Barbuda? I appreciate that you are not about party politics, time to SHOW us that that you really love and support ANTIGUA.

"Night of the living dead"

#1 skyewill » 2013-03-28 04:13

For me it was not CIP it was how it was done. Everything I learned growing up. All the principals my Grandparents taught me. What I learned in the military about integrity, honesty, truthfulness, excellence in character. Everything Ms Joseph and Ms Michael taught us in school. I witness the PUNKING of Antigua’s senators and the country in general: It was a day in the Senate when men who were supposed to be real men, strong men (AND ONE WOMAN) became soft like porridge because of fear and intimidation. What transpired that day in the senate was disgusting, despicable and disgraceful. THEY ATE THEIR OWN AND EACH OTHERS VOMIT. This is our leadership. But mark my word: none of them slept well and they never will ever again. As they grow older it will haunt their minds and they will die insane. This is the same effect soldiers who in the name of democracy kill innocent women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan and go crazy. You cannot go against that spiritual core called the breath of life. That God in you that make you a human being. I am so sorry for them!
