Nation Urged to Attend Day of Prayer

Day of PrayerAntigua St. John's - The government has urged permanent secretaries and heads of departments to exercise their discretion in facilitating government employees who may wish to attend the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Worship Service at the Antigua Recreation Grounds on Wednesday at 4 pm.

The government has also asked private sector employers to allow their employees, where possible and at a convenient time, to attend the worship service.

Both the government service and the private sector will observe normal business hours on Wednesday.

A week ago, the Ecclesiastical Affairs Division within the Office of the Prime Minister assembled church leaders in Antigua & Barbuda to organise a national day for the nation to seek divine intervention and spiritual guidance from God to arrest the anti-social behaviour that is creeping into the society.

The group of church leaders, under the chairmanship of the Most Rev Bishop Kenneth Richards, announced that the National Day will include Bible readings by Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack; Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Leader of the Opposition Gaston Browne.

Musical presentations will come from a number of church groupings and individuals, including Shauna Prince, the National Youth Choir, Inter-School & College Christian Fellowship, and the National Choir.

Intercessions and readings will be done by representatives from the Barbuda Ministerial Council, the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Independent Churches, Antigua and Barbuda Evangelical Alliance, Independent Baptist Christian Ministries Centre, Baptist Assemblies and the Seventh Day Adventists.

Desmond James, president of the South Leeward Mission of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, will preside over the service, while the message will be delivered by the Most Rev Bishop Kenneth Richards, president of the Antigua Christian Council.

I am all for prayer, my church has the word prayer in it. However I could not attend this calling to prayer. I have a problem with religion that usurps relationship with God. I have a problem with pretense. Is God going to move in our nation if we have not humbled ourselves and repented of our wicked ways? Is God going to move when most of our leaders cannot even show up with their wives or when most of them have several girlfriends on the side and in some cases boyfriends. Can we pray in unity when corruption in both parties violate the prinicples of the Word of God. Common people. Let us really pray according to God's word

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

23) Repent at my rebuke, then i will pour out my thoughts to you,i will make known to you my teachings(24)Because I have called and you have refused,I have stretched out my hand and no man regardeth.
(25) You have disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke.
(26)I in turn will laugh at your calamities,i will mock when your fear cometh.
(27)When calamity overtake you like a storm, when disaster sweep over the land like a whirlwind, when distress and troubles overwhelm you.
(28)Then shall they call upon me,but i will not answer, they shall seek me but will not find me.
(29) Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the lord.
(30) Since they would not accept my advice, and have spurned my rebuke.(31)Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
32) For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
33) But whosoever listen to my voice, shall dwell safely, and shall be free from fear of evil.

Nation Prayer Day

#5 Daughter of the Soil » 2013-03-20 10:07

All I can say this is all good and well....but Prayer without Action is Futile!! Unless the GOAB address the real issue, nothing will change e.g. Job Creation (major), training for young people, address social problems and educate the people, rediscover the values that use to exist years ago, gun control, stiffer penalties and rehabilitation of prisoners, if we do not want them to reoffend and the list goes on..on...on...!!!

Gathering people for a day to pray is short live, prayer, fasting and sacrifice is what they should be doing in the presence of God.
Firstly one have to want to fully surrender to the Word of God in obedience with giving their entire lives to God and in paying tithes and offerings from their wages and also from any monetary gifts.

Antigua is having these problems because of the greed and wrong governing. It is not for the government to decide who must attend a prayer meeting, it is up to people to want to serve God by fully surrendering to him, this will mean and have no effect because they have not put God first, and as God said, it is written, "I am a jealous God." So because of the lot of you turning your backs on God wherever you are they will be war.

Hypocritical!

Yes...pray to spare us from the upsurge of crime! What about a day of prayer against corruption in public office? Are we only to pray to save us from the criminals who are not politicians?

I ask that the Christian Council ask for an investigation of the WPP! Baldwin can call you to prayer...you need to call him to account to the people.

Total nonsense, if there is a God do you all think he's going to lift a finger to help Antigua? All you wicked un-christian people need to change your ways first. Just because you go to church on a sunday dressed in all your finery doesn't make you a christian, it just makes you a hypocrite. Try living seven days of the week in a christian like manner, not just once a week.

Let the records reflect thatvit is the Hon. Gaston Browne who initiated this national day of prayer. This press release by Spencer and his government is disingenuous. Playing warri with God again, aided and abetted by he Church. shame.
