Showcase Antigua and Barbuda Symposium Coming Soon

L- Colin James and Neil ForresterAntigua St. John's - The Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association (AHTA) and the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) are encouraging local tourism suppliers to register for the inaugural Showcase Antigua & Barbuda destination symposium by its May 28th deadline.

The showcase, slated for June 5th and being held at Sandals Grande Antigua, is a one-day event connecting local and regional tourism suppliers with complementary international wholesalers, during scheduled one-on-one sessions.

AHTA general manager, Neil Forrester, said Showcase Antigua & Barbuda takes an innovative approach to attracting worldwide interest to the twin-island nation and the Northern Leeward Islands tourism industry on a whole.

“It is like speed dating for suppliers and wholesalers. This individualized approach is what sets Showcase Antigua & Barbuda apart from other tourism initiatives. That is what’s exciting and groundbreaking about this new initiative,” Forrester said.

Chief Executive Officer of ABTA, Colin James, said showcase organisers are not only anticipating a boost in the nation’s tourism product, but also endeavour to solidify Antigua & Barbuda as the centre for tourism innovation.

“This is just the first Showcase Antigua & Barbuda. Over time, we endeavour to build the showcase and solidify the nation as the tourism business-to-business hub for the English-speaking Leeward Islands,” James said.

Thus far, over 60 tourism industry businesses—including hotels, local destination management companies (DMCs), attractions international tour operators and other tourism-based service providers—have registered from 9 countries.

Internationally, participants from the UK, United States, Italy, Canada and Germany have registered. Regionally, stakeholders from Anguilla and St Kitts & Nevis have registered.
